The Farmhouse: from a Tuscan home to a modern agritourism

Our  farmhouse in Tuscany was built in 1771 as an inscription found during the restoration says and originally it was the typical Tuscan country home with a squared base and a tower called “colombaia” (dove nest).
These rural houses were known also as the Leopoldine, in honor of the Grand Duke Leopold of Lorena who wanted these houses to protect the life and the well being of the poor farmers during the second half of 1700. Then during the centuries the house has been changed and after the second world completely abandoned. Only in 1986 the Villani family decided to buy it together with the olive grove.

In the beginning of the 90ties we started to restore the property trying to maintain the original architectural characteristic and then to improve it, using original materials and keep the warmth and the genuine atmosphere that Tuscan farm houses have. After six years of hard work we finally open our business in 1997 and we started the adventure of Agriturismo Villani-Poderi Nesti e Cupoli…

When choosing the name for the agriturismo we decided to keep not only the name of our family, Villani, but also the name of the last two owners before the farmhouse was completely abandoned, that is Poderi Nesti and Podere Cupoli.
